Christina Lengyel is a Professor in the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba, affiliated with the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. Her work focuses on improving nutritional well-being and quality of life for aging populations, particularly in long-term care and community settings.
- Education: PhD in Nutrition (University of Saskatchewan), BSc in Home Economics (University of Alberta)
- Registered Dietitian (College of Dietitians of Manitoba, Commission on Dietetic Registration, USA)
Dr. Lengyel’s research examines determinants of food/fluid intake, dietary assessment methods, body image in baby boomer women, and end-of-life nutrition practices in long-term care homes.
Her recent projects include:
- Understanding Food Choices, Nutrition Experiences, and Nutritional Risk of Very Old Canadian Men (PI)
- Navigating the Nutrition Information Landscape for LTC Residents at End of Life (PI)
- Dining in Long-Term Care and Assisted Living: Stakeholder Perspectives (Co-I)
- Hydration Intervention Protocols for LTC Homes (PI, URGP Grant)
She has received multiple awards for teaching, leadership, and service, including recognition from Dietitians of Canada and the University of Manitoba. Dr. Lengyel teaches courses on management for food/nutrition professionals and geriatric nutrition.
