Christina Hoicka is an Associate Professor in Geography and Civil Engineering at the University of Victoria, Canada. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Urban Planning for Climate Change and leads the Re-imagining Social Energy Transitions (ReSET) CoLaboratory. Her expertise spans energy geography, low-carbon transitions, and renewable energy justice. Hoicka earned a PhD in Geography from the University of Waterloo, an MES from York University, and a B.Eng from McGill University.
Her research focuses on renewable energy clusters, energy citizenship, and justice in urban and Indigenous contexts. She co-founded the Women & Inclusivity in Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) Network. Key contributions include analyzing policy frameworks for renewable energy communities and exploring Indigenous involvement in energy transitions.
Hoicka’s work bridges academic and applied contexts, emphasizing regional energy planning and multi-level governance. Her articles often address socio-technical systems, policy design for energy efficiency, and equity in climate action funding.
