Christina Chin is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Graduate Advisor in the Department of Sociology at California State University, Fullerton, within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her academic career focuses on the intersection of race, ethnicity, and cultural expression in American society.
Dr. Chin received her educational training from the University of California system, earning her B.A. from UC Davis in 2001, followed by an M.A. in 2004 and Ph.D. in 2012 from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Cal State Fullerton, she served as a post-doctoral fellow for the Asian American Studies Department at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Her research interests center on race and ethnic identity formation, immigration experiences, Asian American communities, youth culture, and popular culture. Dr. Chin employs qualitative methodologies to examine how cultural practices like sports and media representation shape ethnic identity and community building. Her work particularly explores Japanese American youth basketball leagues as sites for ethnic community formation and resistance against racial stereotypes.

As a dedicated educator, Dr. Chin regularly teaches SOCI 302 Social Research Methods, SOCI 357 Race & Ethnic Relations, and SOCI 467 Sociology of Sport, bringing her research expertise directly into the classroom.
