Christie Cole is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages at the University of North Dakota (UND), specializing in early modern peninsular literature, colonial and transatlantic studies, and theater and performance studies. She teaches Spanish language, literature, and culture courses at all levels, including advanced seminars on Don Quixote and modern Spanish literature.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Hispanic Literatures and Cultural Studies from Indiana University, with a focus on Early Modern Studies, and B.A. in Spanish Literature from Louisiana Tech University.
Her research explores the intersection of wonder, performance, and cultural identity in early modern Spanish literature, particularly in Cervantes' works and Golden Age theater. She also investigates how music playlists and contemporary pedagogy can foreground social justice themes in classical texts.
Cole has presented her work at prominent conferences such as the South Central Modern Language Association (SCMLA) and the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT), focusing on topics like marvels in Calderón de la Barca’s plays, staged wunderkammers, and gender roles in early modern literature.
