Christiane Schopf

Christiane Schopf serves as Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Institute for Business Education at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), while also holding the position of Deputy Head of the Master's Program in Business Education. Her academic career spans over a decade at WU with progressive appointments from research assistant to her current senior role.

Professor Schopf's research focuses on transformative approaches to business education, specializing in explanatory skill development, competency modeling, and innovative teaching methodologies including flipped classroom techniques and case-based learning. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical classroom applications, particularly in economics education where she develops strategies for making complex concepts accessible. She has pioneered research on explanatory videos and station learning approaches that enhance student engagement in business subjects.

Her recent publication trend shows concentrated work on explanatory frameworks in economics education, with her 2025 handbook establishing a practice-oriented heuristic for creating understandable and motivating explanations in economic contexts. This work represents the culmination of her habilitation project on explaining concepts in economics classes.
