Christiane Furrer is an Honorary Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Lausanne's Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences, affiliated with the Romand Institute of Biblical Sciences (IRSB). Her work focuses on critical editions of ancient Christian texts, particularly the 4th-century Greek apocryphal 'Gospel of Nicodemus' or 'Acta Pilati.' She leads a project to publish its first critical edition, collaborating with the Association for the Study of Christian Apocryphal Literature (AELAC) and integrating textual variants from Oriental and Latin versions. Her research also involves codicology, paleography, and philological analysis of manuscripts in European libraries.
Education includes a Bachelor of Arts in French, Latin, and Greek (1981, University of Lausanne), a diploma in Greek paleography from the Vatican School (1983), and a PhD in Letters (1991) on philosophical/patristic definitions under Prof. F. Lasserre. She has held teaching roles in postclassical Greek at universities in Neuchâtel, Fribourg, and others, alongside research fellowships and paleographic expeditions in Europe.
Her research integrates interdisciplinary methods, linking textual criticism with historical context, and aims to enrich the Corpus Christianorum series through the publication of underrepresented ancient Christian texts. Current projects emphasize collaborative global scholarship to make apocryphal texts accessible for academic study.
