Dr. Christian Yao is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at the School of Management, Victoria University of Wellington. He serves as Academic Programme Leader (2019-2024) and is internationally recognized for expertise in global careers, international HRM, and workforce issues in the Chinese context. His research has been featured by BBC, CNN, DW, and RNZ, bridging scholarly rigor with real-world impact on critical workforce issues.

Dr. Yao's research focuses on cultural context and career development in Chinese settings, examining how traditional Confucian values interact with contemporary work values. His work spans global careers, expatriation, sustainable career development, and workforce issues in China. He has made significant contributions to understanding cultural affordances in career theory, work-family conflict among immigrants, and the challenges of China's youth unemployment crisis.
