Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanneمعرفی
Christian Wäckerlin is an Assistant Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the School of Basic Sciences and the Institute of Physics. He leads the Wäckerlin Group, located at PH A1 365, Station 3, 1015 Lausanne. His research mission focuses on fundamental investigations of low-dimensional (1D/2D) metal-organic nanomaterials, combining ultra-high-vacuum synthesis with advanced characterization techniques including scanning probe microscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and time-of-flight mass spectrometry to study electronic transport, geometric structures, and magnetic properties.
His research interests span nanomaterials, surface science, magnetism, electronic transport phenomena, molecular self-assembly mechanisms, and spectroscopy techniques. Wäckerlin's work bridges condensed matter physics, surface chemistry, and nanotechnology.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals strong themes in surface-mediated reactions (including stereospecific couplings and isotope exchanges), low-dimensional magnetic systems (single-atom magnets, 1D chains), chiral molecular architectures, and 2D material synthesis. His group consistently employs advanced scanning probe techniques and surface spectroscopy across these studies.
Wäckerlin teaches the course Physics of low-dimensional materials, covering fabrication, characterization, and applications of reduced-dimension systems while training scientific review skills. He currently advises three PhD students: Hensky Céline, Le Quy Hien, and Radillo Ochoa Diego. The Wäckerlin Group operates advanced surface science laboratories for nanomaterial synthesis and characterization at EPFL.
