Christian Swertz

Christian Swertz is a Professor of Media Education at the Institute of Educational Science, University of Vienna since September 2004. He currently serves as Head of Viennese Media Education and focuses on digital literacy, educational technology, and interdisciplinary approaches to media education.

• MA in Educational Sciences, Information Science, and Psychology (1994)

His research explores media competence assessment, AI in education, and critical media pedagogy. Recent work includes systematic literature reviews and methodological contributions to media education theory.

Swertz has led projects like Media Impulses, ACCORD, and Praxeologies and Homeostases. He actively participates in conferences such as ECER and ÖFEB, delivering keynote speeches on digital education.

He contributes to open research initiatives and serves as a consultant for academic appointments. His recent articles focus on media construction, digital ethics, and the societal role of media education.
