Christian Spathelf

Dr. Christian Spathelf is a Lecturer and Head of the Research Group at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), Institute of Civil Engineering. His research focuses on fatigue behavior of reinforced concrete structures, sustainable building materials, and structural retrofitting. He holds a Doctorate in Polymer Science and Engineering from ETH Zürich and degrees in Civil Engineering from Stellenbosch University.

Prior to HSLU, Spathelf worked as a project engineer at Bigler AG and conducted research at ETH Zürich on concrete durability. He teaches courses in concrete design, structural mechanics, and project modules for civil engineering students. Current projects include developing carbon capture applications in construction and parametric facade systems.
