معرفی
Christian Schoof is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Science. His research focuses on fluid dynamics and glaciology, particularly the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets, subglacial hydraulics, and the interaction of ice with climate systems. He leads a research group studying crevasse evolution, ice shelf stability, and subglacial drainage systems. Current students include Nicolas Morales (PhD, Mathematics), Zoe Herbermann (MSc, Mathematics), and Tyler Petillion (MSc, Geophysics).
Research Interests:
- Glacier hydrology and subglacial drainage
- Ice sheet dynamics and stability
- Climate impacts on polar ice masses
- Mathematical modeling of glaciological processes
- Fluid mechanics in geophysical contexts
Recent work emphasizes calving mechanisms in ice shelves, the role of subtemperate slip in ice stream margins, and the thermal evolution of ice sheets. His team uses field observations, numerical simulations, and applied mathematical techniques to address these challenges. Collaborations span disciplines including applied mathematics, geophysics, and environmental science.
