Christian Pfleiderer

Professor Christian Pfleiderer holds the Chair of Experimental Physics on the Topology of Correlated Systems at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), within the TUM School of Natural Sciences and Department of Physics. He is also Executive Director of the TUM Center for Quantum Engineering (ZQE) since February 2022 and Scientific Director of the TUM research neutron source FRM II since January 2024.

Professor Pfleiderer's research focuses on experimental solid state physics, particularly the systematic search for new material properties with unusual topological characteristics and strong electronic correlations in magnetism and superconductivity. His work spans single crystal growth of intermetallic compounds, measurement of transport and volume properties under extreme conditions, and various scattering methods. He has a long tradition in neutron-related research and provides scientific partnership for beam lines at FRM II.

His recent publications reveal a strong focus on topological materials, skyrmion physics, quantum phase transitions, and chiral magnets, with significant contributions to understanding the electronic and magnetic properties of correlated systems. The research shows consistent advancement in both fundamental understanding and potential applications in quantum technologies.

Professor Pfleiderer has held significant leadership roles, including board membership in DFG Transregio 80, speaker of the Priority Program SPP2137 (Skyrmionics), and deputy coordinator of the Quantum Matter Division of the Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST). He teaches various courses including Electronic Structure of Solids, Seminar on Topology of Correlated Systems, and Neutron Scattering techniques.
