Prof. Nuernbergk's research focuses on journalism in digital environments, particularly examining political communication, strategic communication, and public communication within digitalized public spheres. His methodological expertise includes network analysis and computational social science approaches to studying media communication patterns. His work frequently analyzes journalist-audience interactions on social media platforms, particularly Twitter, and investigates how digital technologies reshape traditional journalistic practices and political communication.
His recent publications (2020-2024) reveal a consistent focus on digital journalism, with particular attention to political journalists' Twitter practices, pandemic communication dynamics, and theoretical developments in public sphere theory. The research demonstrates increasing methodological sophistication with network analysis techniques applied to large-scale social media datasets.
