Christian Jochim is Professor of Comparative Religious Studies and Director of the Center for Asian Studies at San Jose State University. He holds a PhD in Religion and East Asian Studies from the University of Southern California (1980) and specializes in Chinese religion and philosophy, particularly contemporary Confucianism in China and Taiwan.
His research examines the intersection of religious traditions and modern society, with publications analyzing popular lay sects in Taiwan, Confucian spirituality, and the adaptation of Confucian principles in modern contexts. His book Chinese Religions: A Cultural Perspective provides a foundational analysis of religious theory and practice in China.
