Christian Elsässer

Prof. Christian Elsässer serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Institute of Physics, University of Freiburg. He is also the Head of the Business Unit Materials Design at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (IWM) in Freiburg. His expertise spans materials design, theoretical solid-state physics, and computational materials science. He leads the Inorganic and Organic SolStore project within livMatS and has supervised doctoral researcher Wei Wei.

Research interests include density functional theory, multiscale modeling, and multifunctional materials. His work focuses on lithium ion migration in perovskites and efficient electronic structure modeling. Funded by the DFG, his research addresses energy storage and material innovation.

He contributes to academic programs like the Master Lab program and Writer's Studio, fostering early-career researchers. Infrastructure involvement includes the IDEASfactory@FIT and Research Data Management initiatives at the institute.
