Christian E. ROQUES

Christian E. ROQUES is a Lecturer in Germanic Studies at the UFR Letters and Human Sciences, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. His research focuses on Contemporary German Civilization, the History of Political Thought, and Political Romanticism, with emphasis on 20th-century Germany, ordoliberalism, and the reception of Machiavelli’s ideas. He holds advanced degrees from institutions like the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and Paris-Sorbonne, including a doctoral thesis on political romanticism’s reception in Weimar Germany (2011).

Teaching: Courses include economic history of Germany, ordoliberalism’s role in neoliberalism, and political institutions of modern Germany. He oversees the URCA-Catholic Institute of Paris agreement (LEA License).

Research: His work bridges intellectual history and political philosophy, examining authoritarian thought, Weimar-era discourses, and ordoliberal critiques. Recent publications analyze Ricarda Huch’s political biographies, interwar democracy critiques, and ordoliberalism’s legacy post-1945.

Awards: Recipient of the prestigious Lavoisier Scholarship (2002-2003) during a research stint at India’s IISc Bangalore.

Membership: Active in the CIRLEP research team (39 researchers, 35 doctoral students), contributing to interdisciplinary projects on German political thought and cultural history.
