Camille Jenn-Gastal

Camille Jenn-Gastal is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA). She is affiliated with the CIRLEP research team and holds responsibilities including coordinating Erasmus exchanges for LEA programs and language assistance in Germany/Austria, as well as membership in the Educational Commission.

Her education includes a German teacher qualification (1993) and a university doctorate (1999). Her research focuses on German-language literature and theatre (18th–21st centuries), with particular emphasis on Heinrich von Kleist and Georg Büchner. She explores cultural history (18th–19th centuries), dramatic theory, and comparative literature, especially Kleist’s reception in France and the representation of revolution in political theatre.

Teaching expertise spans translation studies, literature, history of ideas, theatre studies, and preparation for French competitive exams (Capes and agrégation). Her publications analyze Kleist’s plays (e.g., Die Familie Schroffenstein), Büchner’s dramatic critiques of revolutionary myths, and Kleist’s engagement with modernity. She also examines historical characters in theatre and the role of war imagery in literary creation.

As part of the CIRLEP team, she collaborates with 39 researchers, 35 doctoral students, and other academic staff, contributing to interdisciplinary research in Germanic studies and cultural history.
