His research centers on Greek literature and drama (5th century BC), Renaissance theater, and the reception history of Greek tragedy. He teaches courses on ancient and modern literature and guides student theses.
Dahl's fields of interest include Greek literature, Renaissance theater, tragedy theory, early modern literature, the history of political ideas in literature, literary sociology, genre theory, and German idealism. Current research focuses on tragedy and passion in the 15th-16th centuries and the cultural history of republican thought. He is co-editing a book on literature and politics (1500-1800).
Recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a focus on classical reception (e.g., translations of Apuleius and Longus), digital humanities (distant reading), and cultural historical methodology. His work explores topoi like the beach in ancient literature and dystopian themes.
