Professor Christian Berger holds the Chair of Civil Law, Civil Procedure, and Copyright Law at Leipzig University's Faculty of Law since 1998. He serves as Managing Director of the Ernst Jaeger Institute for Corporate Restructuring and Insolvency Law and the Institute for Lawyers' Law. Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Law (2008-2013), a judge at the Dresden Higher Regional Court (2004-2008), and President of the German Media Arbitration Court (2017-2020).
His research focuses on contract and property law, intangible economic assets, licensing law, insolvency law, civil procedure, arbitration proceedings, and conflict management. Professor Berger has authored numerous publications in these fields including a sole-authored textbook on property law. He actively participates in international academic cooperation, notably with Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, where he recently supervised the disputation of doctoral student Florian Wundrich on 'Written Arbitration'.
As an arbitrator specializing in contract, commercial, and corporate law, intellectual property, and licensing law, he contributes to practical legal applications. He coordinates Priority Area 8: Legal Advice-Legal Design-Law Enforcement and teaches interdisciplinary courses like 'Negotiation Theory with Practical Exercises' in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Economics. His team includes scientific staff members Malte Martin Quickert, Luisa Schmidt, Lea Stanescu, and Karl Schaefer, along with several student assistants.
