Christi Smith is an Associate Teaching Professor at Georgetown University. She has held academic appointments at The Ohio State University, Oberlin College, and Washington University in St. Louis, where she also served as Assistant Dean at the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Her research focuses on how politics and organizations shape processes of social inclusion/exclusion historically and internationally.
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Sociology from Smith College
- Masters in Education Policy from Indiana University
- PhD in Sociology from Indiana University
Research Interests: Dr. Smith examines topics such as racial inequality in education, transitional justice mechanisms in post-conflict societies, and the historical dynamics of integrated higher education systems. She combines comparative historical analysis with organizational sociology approaches.
Professional Activities: She has been a visiting scholar at the University of Aarhus (Denmark), the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (Germany), and regularly co-teaches a service-learning course on refugee incorporation at the University of Konstanz (Germany).
Funding: Her research has been supported by the Spencer Foundation for Education Research, the Landesstiftung of Baden-Württemberg, and other institutions.
