Dr Chris White is an Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where he serves as Head of the Centre for Water, Environment, Sustainability and Public Health. He leads the Engineering for Extremes research group and is actively involved in major international and national research initiatives, including Horizon Europe and EPSRC-funded projects. He also holds an adjunct Senior Lecturer position at the University of Tasmania.
His research expertise lies in natural hazards, climate change resilience, and hydro-meteorological risks, with a focus on floods, droughts, heatwaves, and compound events. He specializes in subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) forecasting and climate projections, aiming to improve decision-making through climate services. His work bridges physical science and societal impacts, emphasizing cross-sectoral cascading effects and risk communication.
Recent publications highlight his focus on compound meteorological events and the evolution of weather services, reflecting a strong trend toward interdisciplinary and impact-driven climate science. His research supports applications in emergency management and resource planning under climate change.

Dr White supervises PhD students and collaborates extensively with institutions like the Met Office and the World Meteorological Organization. He has secured significant funding, including an EPSRC PhD studentship on long-term climate risk for nuclear waste storage.
He is active in professional networks and regularly participates in conferences and seminars, including organizing roles in events like World Water Day 2025 and the Strath Methods seminar series.
