David Brayshaw is a Professor in Climate Science and Energy Meteorology at the University of Reading's Department of Meteorology. He serves as Joint Head of Department (Academic Staff and Teaching) and leads the Energy Meteorology research group, founded in 2012. His work focuses on climate impacts, energy systems, and climate services, including developing models for subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasting and energy sector resilience. He teaches modules like Climate Services and Climate Impact Modelling at both MSc and online course levels.
Research interests include weather/climate impacts on energy systems, risk assessment, and large-scale atmospheric dynamics. Current projects involve decadal climate forecasting for energy, extreme event prediction, and renewable energy spatial analysis. He supervises multiple PhD students and has led projects funded by EPSRC, H2020, and industry partners like National Grid. His interdisciplinary work bridges academia and industry, addressing climate-energy challenges through advanced meteorological tools and open research datasets.
Notable contributions include pioneering energy-climate databases and frameworks for reserve power management in critical infrastructure. Advising spans over 20 students, with active collaborations across Europe. The Energy Meteorology group also supports climate intelligence training via online courses and open-access datasets.
