Chris Wang is an Associate Professor of Biology and Chair of the Sciences department at Ambrose University. He joined the faculty in Fall 2017 and holds a PhD from the University of Calgary, following an MSc and BSc from the University of Calgary and University of Lethbridge, respectively. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms governing the balance between stem cell proliferation and differentiation, using Caenorhabditis elegans and human tissue culture models. Central to his work is the GLP-1/Notch signaling pathway and the role of TEG-1/CD2BP2 in regulating microRNA abundance and germline development.
Wang has published extensively in journals such as PLOS Genetics, Genetics, and Scientific Reports, with recent studies investigating Notch signaling in tumor suppression and affinity matrix bioengineering. His teaching philosophy emphasizes active and team-based learning, and he instructs courses including Cellular and Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, and Cancer Biology.
His research team includes advisees like Ramya Singh, Sadaf Sangari, and Kara Vanden Broek, who present at conferences such as the International C. elegans Conference. Key areas of exploration include scaffold proteins like RACK-1 and the role of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) in stem cell regulation.
