Chris Thorpe

Chris Thorpe is affiliated with the Royal College of Art (RCA) as part of the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre. He holds a PhD from Cranfield University and has extensive industry experience, including roles at QinetiQ and founding his own practice, Intelligent Design Associates. His work focuses on interdisciplinary design at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and commercial applications.

Education: WMPC (Wood, Metal, Plastics & Ceramics) from Brighton University (1988), MA in Furniture Design & Technology from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University (1991), and a PhD in smart materials and design process from Cranfield University (2000).

Expertise: Chris specializes in intelligent mobility systems, user experience design, and sustainable development. His projects include adaptive camouflage systems, renewable energy logistics, and EU-funded initiatives like the EPOSBED hospital bed project. He has also contributed to foresight studies for brands like Diageo and NHS National Innovation Centre.
