Cynthia Charwick-Bland is an accomplished automotive designer with 30 years of industry experience who holds a position at the Royal College of Art's School of Design. She specializes in interior vehicle design and is affiliated with the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre.
Her extensive career has spanned prestigious automotive design studios worldwide, including Ford, Volvo, Caran, MG Rover, Saab, and Daewoo. Originally working on both exterior and interior design, she has evolved to focus exclusively on interiors and has been headhunted to lead interior design programs for major automotive companies, with many of her designs reaching production vehicles.
Her research interests encompass Automotive Design, Interior Vehicle Design, Intelligent Mobility, Transportation Design, Vehicle Design, and Mobility Systems. She contributes to significant research projects including "Mobility for Future Rural Communities," a collaboration with the Royal Automobile Club and RAC Foundation that aligns with the London to Brighton classic car run.
Charwick-Bland maintains an active dual career, working as an Automotive Design Consultant alongside her academic role at RCA while also developing a jewelry design business. Her industry experience informs her academic contributions, creating a valuable bridge between professional practice and academic research.
