Jiayu Wu is an academic and innovation methods educator at the Royal College of Art (RCA), specializing in user experience design for mobility and automotive industries. She holds a Lecturer position and leads research at the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre (IMDC), focusing on human-centered approaches to emerging mobility challenges. Her work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing design innovation in business development and social engagement.
Education and Background: Wu earned her PhD from Tsinghua University, with research at Aalto University, Finland. She previously directed Tsinghua x-lab’s Design Innovation Centre and worked at Volkswagen New Mobility Services, developing car-sharing and urban mobility solutions.
Research Interests: Wu explores user experiences in autonomous vehicles, inclusive design for future transport, emotional transitions in driving, and agent-based modeling of urban interactions. Current projects include Hyundai Kia’s Future Luxury and Emotional Tech initiatives, and the GATEway automated transport study.
Awards: AHRC Design Fellow (2021), recognizing her work on future mobility challenges. She advises three current PhD students and collaborates with industry partners globally.
