Chris Raintree is an Interim Assistant Professor and Head of Scene Design at the Department of Theatre, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He holds a BFA in Scene Design and Technology from VCU and an MFA in Scene Design from Carnegie Mellon University. His work focuses on scenic design for theatre productions and large-scale events.

His designs have been recognized at the South Eastern Theatre Conference and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Notable projects include CMU’s centennial production of The Wild Party, and collaborations with Barker Designs on events like Nickelodeon’s World Wide Day of Play and Sesame Street’s K is for Kindness Tour. He also designs for Shalom Farms’ Grown To Go Mobile Market and works with the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC) as a designer and instructor.

Raintree’s freelance work spans Richmond, VA, with credits including Alice in Bed, Driving Miss Daisy, and Disney’s Tarzan. He actively contributes to both academic and community theatre initiatives.
