Dick Block is a Teaching Professor of Design and Associate Head of the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has served on the faculty for 33 years. He supports the Head of School in administrative duties, acts as a liaison between stakeholders, and contributes to School of Drama activities. Prior to Carnegie Mellon, he worked as a freelance scenic designer in New York City and locally in Pittsburgh.
- Education: MFA from Northwestern University
His career spans Broadway productions (Evita, Cats) and regional theater collaborations with institutions like the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, McCarter Theatre, and American Repertory Theatre. He co-authored the textbook Scene Design and Stage Lighting (9th edition) and held leadership roles in USITT and the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.
