Chris Pollett is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Computer Science at San Jose State University (SJSU), part of the College of Engineering. He has held past academic affiliations at UCLA, Clark University, Boston University, UC San Diego, Caltech, and others. His research focuses on computational complexity, quantum circuits, cryptocurrencies, and logic, with a particular emphasis on bounded arithmetic and theoretical computer science. Pollett is also actively involved in administrative roles, including serving on the Recruitment Committee, Graduate Curriculum Committee, and various other departmental committees. He has advised numerous master's students and undergraduate researchers, contributing to projects in AI, databases, and web development.
Research interests include computational complexity theory, quantum computing, cryptographic systems, and formal logic. Notable work involves exploring Ethereum-based lending systems, proof-of-stake consensus mechanisms, and foundational questions in bounded arithmetic. Pollett has also contributed to open-source projects like the Yioop search engine, emphasizing practical applications of theoretical concepts.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC San Diego (1997). Administrative contributions span curriculum development, accessibility initiatives (as Faculty-in-Residence for Accessible Technology in the College of Science), and academic leadership. Pollett has authored over 30 publications in top-tier journals and conferences, and his teaching spans courses in algorithms, databases, AI, and theoretical computer science.
