Dr. Chris Papadopoulos is a Principal Lecturer in Public Health and Director of Health Research at the University of Bedfordshire's School of Society, Community and Health. He leads research initiatives and teaches on MSc Public Health programs, including units on Public Health Research Methods and Public Health Protection. His academic roles include unit leadership in Microbiology & Public Health, Advanced Clinical Practice, and Medical Education. With a PhD from Middlesex University (2008), he specializes in stigma, autism, mental health, and health technologies like social robotics. His research has contributed to the University's REF 2014 submission and influenced national policies, including NHS organ donation strategies. He chairs committees such as the University’s Staff Disability Network and leads the London Autism Group Charity, advocating for autistic communities. His work spans over 150 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on culturally competent robotics in healthcare, autism stigma, and mental health interventions.
Research interests include autism stigma, health technology innovation, and culturally competent AI/social robotics. He has supervised nine PhD completions and contributed to national and international projects, including the EU-funded CARESSES trial evaluating socially assistive robots in care homes. Awards include the 2023 PROSE Award and recognition for academic excellence. Media engagements include BBC and Spectator contributions on topics like autism, robotics, and public health policy.
Professional roles include membership in the Council of Deans of Health Research Leads Network and advisory roles on projects like the Welsh Government’s Neurodiversity and Anti-Racism initiative. His community work includes founding the London Autism Group Charity, aiming to improve social inclusion and wellbeing for autistic individuals. He balances academic leadership with impactful research, bridging healthcare innovation and societal needs through interdisciplinary collaboration.
