Chris McKenna is a Reader in Business History and Strategy at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Brasenose College. His research focuses on the historical development of large institutions, white-collar crime, and the influence of professions on corporate governance. He holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University and has held roles at Yale, Harvard, and the Wharton School.
Teaching excellence includes nominations for the UK National Teaching Fellowship Award (2005, 2006) and a Social Science Division teaching prize (2014). He teaches undergraduate strategy, MBA courses, and executive education programs on business history.
Research interests span organizational change since the Second Industrial Revolution, management model transmission, and the history of corporate misconduct. His book The World’s Newest Profession was recognized as a Financial Times Book of the Year.
Editorial roles include positions at Organizational & Management History, Enterprise & Society, and Journal of Professions and Organizations. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
