Chris Massa is a PartTime Lecturer in the Department of Music at Durham University and a PhD candidate in music composition under the supervision of Professor Richard Rijnvos, Dr James Weeks, and Professor Bennett Zon. His research is supported by a Bell Postgraduate Scholarship from University College.

His research interests include music theology, eclecticism, synthesism, improvisation, nuanced interpretation, and musical borrowing. His compositions have been commissioned and premiered at conferences by PMEA and ACDA, and he was awarded the 2017 Pittsburgh Philharmonic Young Composer Contest.
Previously based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Chris has collaborated with ensembles such as Voces Solis, Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, and members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (William Caballer, Cynthia Koledo DeAlmeida). He currently focuses on Passion oratorios and explores interdisciplinary connections in musical practice.
