Chris LaLonde is a Professor in the Department of Cinema and Screen Studies at SUNY Oswego, where he also serves as Director of General Education. He holds a B.S.S. from Cornell College of Iowa and a Ph.D. from SUNY Buffalo.
His research focuses on Native American literature, cultural studies, and border theory, with emphasis on themes of survivance, identity, and transnationalism. He explores how indigenous narratives intersect with place, history, and humor in contemporary literature and film.
LaLonde's scholarly publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with literary criticism, film analysis, and cultural geography, frequently addressing decolonization and cultural continuity in Native American contexts. His 2023 work examines border theory through Gerald Vizenor's writings, while earlier publications investigate Ojibwe cultural healing in Louise Erdrich's works and humor in transnational literature.
He has received prestigious awards including a Fulbright Research and Lecturer Award in Finland and a Sasakawa Fellowship in Japan Studies. Other honors include participation in NEH seminars at UC Irvine and the College of William and Mary.
