Dr Chris Kalnins is an ARC Grant-Funded Researcher at the School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences, University of Adelaide. His research focuses on radiation detection technologies and environmental radiation exposure, with a particular emphasis on developing advanced materials and methods for dosimetry and environmental monitoring.
His research interests span radiation detection, environmental science, and materials science. He explores the application of advanced materials like glasses and optical fibers for radiation sensing, and investigates the environmental and health impacts of exposure to radiation sources such as radon and radioactive isotopes.
Recent work includes studies on immunological effects of radon exposure, computational modeling of radiation environments using GEANT4, and the development of novel luminescent materials for dosimetry. He has also contributed to understanding uranium mobility in geological systems and optimizing detector geometries for aerial gamma surveys.
His research is supported by Australian Research Council grants, and his collaborative projects involve advanced materials development and environmental radiation studies.
