Chris Jones is an Associate Professor of International Studies at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington. His research focuses on NATO/Warsaw Pact relations, post-Cold War security issues, and the political economy of the post-Cold War era. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science (Harvard, 1975), an M.A. in Soviet Studies (Harvard, 1969), and a B.A. in History (Princeton, 1967).
Teaching emphasizes courses such as Eurasian Nuclear Security Issues, NATO, and The Soviet Empire: Creation, Consolidation, and Collapse. His publications analyze Warsaw Pact dynamics, Soviet strategy, and post-communist security challenges. Notably, he is currently not accepting new MA/PhD students for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Research themes include international relations, conflict and violence, and technology’s role in security. He has been cited in media discussions on topics like Russian election interference and Iran’s nuclear deal.
