Dr. Chris Hull is a Senior Lecturer in Spanish & Latin American Studies at the University of Chester since 2013. He leads modules on Latin American society, culture, and history, oversees Portuguese language teaching, and serves as Careers & Employability Link Tutor. His research focuses on Anglo-Cuban relations (1898–1964), the 1971 Tupamaros kidnapping of a British ambassador, and Graham Greene's works on Cuba. He also explores football history, including Brian Clough's management and the first British footballer at Real Madrid.
- Education: BA in Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies (Newcastle, 1995–99), MLitt in Latin American Studies (Newcastle, 1999–2000), PhD in Latin American Area Studies (Nottingham, 2004–08).
Research interests span diplomatic history, Cuban Revolution narratives, and transnational cultural studies. Recent projects include analyzing the geopolitical tensions in Anglo-American arms sales to Cuba and the cultural impact of Graham Greene's works. He also investigates football's sociohistorical dimensions, blending academic rigor with public engagement.
His publications include a monograph on Cold War Cuban diplomacy and a book on Brian Clough’s early managerial career. He contributes to academic conferences globally and maintains active collaborations with institutions in Cuba, Portugal, and the US.
