Dr. Chris Haynes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Sciences at the University of New Haven, with appointments in Legal Studies and Political Science. He specializes in immigration, political framing, presidential elections, race and ethnicity, and the impact of media on politics and public opinion.
His research examines how media framing influences public attitudes toward immigration and how political rhetoric shapes policy debates. Dr. Haynes has conducted significant work on the 'Twitter presidency' and how social media transforms political communication. He co-authored the book 'Framing Immigrants: News Coverage, Public Opinion, and Policy' which analyzes how different media frames impact immigration attitudes.
At the University of New Haven, Dr. Haynes founded and directs the Model United Nations program and established the Mayor's Advisory Commission. His students regularly conduct election exit polling and engage in community-based research projects. Dr. Haynes frequently provides expert commentary on immigration issues and presidential elections for major media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and The Washington Post.
