Chris Harrod is a Professor of Ecology and Director of the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment at the University of Glasgow. He previously held roles such as Titular Professor of Fish and Aquatic Ecology at Universidad de Antofagasta (2014–2024), Part-time Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London (2013–2014), and Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast (2007–2013). His research focuses on aquatic ecology, conservation, and stable isotope analysis, with emphasis on fish and ecosystems in Chile, the UK, and globally. He has directed facilities like the Universidad de Antofagasta Stable Isotope Facility and co-led the Millennium Nucleus for Invasive Salmonids.
Research interests include trophic ecology, invasive species impacts, climate change effects, and reconstructing historical food webs. He has extensive experience in stable isotope methodology and its applications across marine and freshwater systems. His work spans diverse environments, from Chile’s Atacama coastal kelp forests to high-altitude Andean lakes.
Harrod has supervised numerous postgraduate students and contributed to grants like the Atlantic Salmon Bioregions project (2025–2026). He holds editorial roles in journals such as Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries and Journal of Fish Biology. Professional recognitions include IUCN Salmonid Specialist Group membership and grant review roles in Chile and internationally.
