Dr. Chris Harris is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social, Health and Organizational Psychology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. He is affiliated with the Goallab research group focusing on work and organizational psychology, particularly occupational health psychology.
Dr. Harris's research centers on social cognition, specifically examining how decisions are shaped by experience and previous choices. His work explores the relationship between choice behavior, stereotype formation, and cognitive biases within social contexts. He investigates how learning depends on previously made choices and encountered information, with particular interest in decision-making and sampling within a broader social cognition framework. His research often addresses how initial biases can become consolidated through exploitation strategies in reward-rich environments.
His recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on cognitive biases, decision-making processes, and the role of exploitation versus exploration strategies in shaping human behavior. His work examines how frequent positive outcomes can result in persisting biases and how the evidence we obtain through our behavior shapes our perception of the world. Dr. Harris's research has been published in reputable journals including Memory and Cognition, Motivation Science, and Journal of Experimental Psychology.
As an educator, Dr. Harris teaches social psychology and statistics courses across Bachelor, Master, and Research Master programs at Utrecht University, as well as at University College. He supervises bachelor, master, and research master theses, providing mentorship to students researching social and cognitive psychology. His teaching spans multiple academic levels and contributes to the training of future psychologists and researchers.
