معرفی
Dr. Chris Firth is a Research Fellow/Associate Lecturer in Igneous Petrology at the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He holds a PhD in Volcanology/Geochemistry from Macquarie University. His research focuses on volcanic processes, including persistently active volcanoes, explosive caldera-forming eruptions, tephrochronology, and the role of volcanism in mass extinctions, particularly in the South-West Pacific.
His work spans multiple disciplines, integrating field observations, geochemical analysis, and experimental petrology to understand magmatic systems. Recent publications highlight studies on Holocene tephras in New Guinea, magma evolution in volcanic systems like White Island (New Zealand), and the dynamics of lava lakes at Ambrym volcano (Vanuatu).
Dr. Firth is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research students and contributes to interdisciplinary projects exploring volcanic hazards and environmental impacts. His research has been published in journals such as Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, Lithos, and Chemical Geology.
He currently accepts research students for Honours, Masters, and PhD programs, emphasizing topics related to volcanic processes and magmatic systems.
