Bradley W Pitcher serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences within the College of Earth, Ocean & Environment at the University of Delaware. His research centers on igneous petrology and volcanology, with a focus on magmatic processes and timescales preceding explosive eruptions.

Dr. Pitcher's research spans igneous petrology, high-temperature geochemistry, and tephrochronology, with emphasis on magmatic processes leading to explosive eruptions. His work challenges the long-standing assumption that large explosive eruptions require tens of thousands of years to develop, demonstrating through rigorous statistical analysis that magma assembly may occur over centuries. He also actively engages in scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and science communication through digital platforms.
His publication record reveals a consistent focus on caldera-forming eruptions in Japan (Aira), Santorini, and the Cascades (Deschutes Formation), employing geochemical, petrological, and statistical methodologies. Recent work highlights the role of extensional tectonics in ignimbrite flare-ups and utilizes melt inclusions to determine magma storage conditions, significantly advancing understanding of volcanic hazard timelines.
