Chris Eccleston is a Professor in the Department for Health at the University of Bath, leading the Centre for Pain Research. He is affiliated with the Bath Institute for the Augmented Human and the Centre for Bioengineering & Biomedical Technologies (CBio). His research focuses on chronic pain management, adolescent chronic pain, assistive technologies, and self-management strategies for chronic illnesses. He holds editorial roles in journals like PAIN and Palliative and Supportive Care, and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Key projects include investigations into chronic pain mechanisms using UK Biobank data, psychosocial factors influencing pain transitions, and enhancing trust in pain evidence through the ENTRUST-PE framework. He supervises doctoral students and has secured grants from the MRC and The Royal Society.
Eccleston’s work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, with recent projects addressing pain after knee replacement surgery, cannabinoid efficacy in pain management, and digital therapeutics. His research emphasizes translational approaches to improve pain care through technology, policy, and patient-centered interventions.
