Prof Chris Clarkson is a Professor of Cosmology and Head of the Astronomy Unit at Queen Mary University of London's School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. His research focuses on cosmology, general relativity, and observational signatures of large-scale structure. He leads major grants such as the £1.6M STFC-funded Astronomy Research at Queen Mary (2023–2026). Previously, he held positions at the University of Cape Town and the University of Portsmouth.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, University of Glasgow (1999)
- Postdoctoral research at Dalhousie University (Canada) and University of Cape Town
Research Interests: Probing the Cosmological Principle, relativistic effects in large-scale structure, dark energy constraints, and gravitational lensing. He develops methods to analyze galaxy surveys and gravitational wave data, emphasizing relativistic corrections in cosmological observations.
Grants & Collaborations: Leads or co-leads grants on cosmological simulations, dark energy probes, and relativistic cosmography. Collaborates internationally on projects like HIRAX (radio transient探测) and Euclid surveys.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Centre for Fundamental Physics and the Astronomy Unit, mentoring 2 current PhD students. Former students have pursued postdoctoral roles in cosmology and astrophysics.
