Chris Cagle is an Associate Professor in the Film and Media Arts Department at Temple University's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. His research focuses on classical Hollywood cinema, cinematography, documentary film, and social theory. He authored Sociology on Film: Postwar Hollywood's Prestige Commodity (2016), analyzing 1940s social problem films as sociological discourse. Current projects include examining international 'festival film' styles in contemporary documentaries. His work appears in Cinema Journal, Screen, and Quarterly Review of Film and Video. He maintains the blog Category D for interdisciplinary film/media studies discussions.
