Chris Brauer is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Molecular Ecology Lab (MELFU), Flinders University, specializing in conservation genomics, evolutionary biology, and climate change adaptation of aquatic species. His research focuses on leveraging genomics and transcriptomics to understand how populations evolve under environmental pressures, particularly in freshwater fish and marine organisms.
Research Interests:
- Conservation and evolution of aquatic biodiversity
- Climate change impacts on genetic diversity
- Hybridization as a conservation tool
- Population dynamics in extreme environments
- Genomic monitoring for species recovery
Scientific Awards:
- 2016 - Flinders University Faculty of Science and Engineering Best Research Higher Degree Student Publication
Recent Publications highlight work on:
- Hybridization reducing extinction risks in heat-stressed species
- Desert-adapted rainbowfish surviving extreme arid conditions
- Genomic tools for fisheries management
- Long-term climatic stability shaping temperate biodiversity hotspots
- Effective population size metrics for exploited marine species
His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for biodiversity conservation and climate action.
