Chris Bowen is Professor of Materials Engineering and Associate Dean (Research) at the University of Bath. His interdisciplinary research designs functional materials for energy harvesting, sensing, and biomedical applications, with 599+ publications on ferroelectric systems and smart composites.
Innovations: Leads projects developing freeze-cast pyroelectric sensors, self-healing concrete, and piezoelectric implants. Recent work achieved breakthroughs in 3D-printed cellulose composites for neural regeneration and received ARIA funding for soft robotics.
Leadership: Directs research centers in nanoscience and sustainable technologies while supervising 37 doctoral candidates. Collaborates internationally on cryogenic material characterization and hydrogen storage solutions.
