Dr Chris Bevan is a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Bristol's School of Computer Science, where he teaches immersive technologies and leads research in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). He holds an honorary research fellowship at the CREATE Lab, University of Bath's Department of Psychology. His academic background includes a BSc from Lancaster University, an MRes from Lancaster University, and a PhD from the University of Bath.
Bevan's research focuses on virtual reality (VR), social robotics, cybersecurity, and pervasive computing. His work spans cross-disciplinary collaborations with industry partners like Aardman Animations and Watershed, as well as academic institutions. Key projects include the Virtual Reality Oracle (exploring ancient divination through VR), VRDocs (immersive documentary studies), and SID (behavioral biometrics research). He has received awards including the 2015 Best Paper Award at HRI and Honorable Mentions at CHI 2023 and 2019.
He has contributed to educational initiatives such as Plug Back Into Science (mobile datalogging for schools) and Space Vision (vision screening games for children). His research emphasizes ethical design, audience engagement in VR, and the intersection of technology with healthcare and education.
