Chris Bevan is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath and currently teaches immersive technologies at the University of Bristol's School of Computer Science as part of the Bristol Interaction Group. He holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from the University of Bath, focusing on pervasive computing and trust in urban systems. His research spans virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), social robotics, cybersecurity, and ancient history applications. He leads projects such as the Virtual Reality Oracle (VRO), exploring ancient divination through VR, and collaborates with institutions like Charisma.AI, Kilter Theatre, and the CREATE Laboratory.
Key projects include AI in Antiquity (2025-2026), examining AI’s role in engaging with ancient history, and VRDocs (2017-2020), analyzing VR nonfiction media. His work often bridges academia, industry, and the arts, emphasizing ethical considerations and cross-disciplinary innovation. Notable awards include Honorable Mention Awards (2021, 2020) and a Best Paper Award (2016).
Bevan’s research explores themes like attention synchrony in 360° video (2020), AI-driven museum interaction (2025), and the ethics of conscious AI in games (2024). He has pioneered location-based services (e.g., Mobile Bristol) and contributed to foundational studies on trust in Wi-Fi hotspots (2008). His current projects address immersive documentary ethics, telepresence robotics, and VR’s societal impact.
