Crescent Jicol is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction. His research focuses on combining cognitive science with Virtual Reality (VR) to explore human factors influencing user presence and engagement. He leads the REal and Virtual Environments Augmentation Lab (REVEAL), an interdisciplinary group involving Computer Science and Psychology departments, and is an associate member of the Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA). His work emphasizes physiological sensing and personality computation to develop adaptive VR experiences.
He has contributed to projects such as the Hyper-immersive eXtended Reality initiative funded by The British Academy and the EU-funded EMIL project, fostering pan-European collaboration in immersive media research. His research spans topics like emotion measurement in VR, cross-modal correspondences in deformable shapes, and the impact of social density on virtual workplace perception.
Key collaborations include academic institutions and industry partners through CAMERA. His recent publications address innovative methods for VR emotion assessment, tangible interfaces in film pre-production, and XR innovation networks.
