Choo Yoo Sang

Choo Yoo Sang is an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Director (Special Duties) at the Technology Centre for Offshore & Marine, Singapore (TCOMS). He previously held the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Chair Professorship at NUS (2009–2017) and served as the 106th President of The Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST, 2008). His education includes a B.Sc. (First Class Hons), M.Sc., and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester.

Choo’s research focuses on marine operations, structural integrity management of offshore structures, and tubular/plated structural strength. He has led projects like the Structural Integrity Management Programme and the Grouted Joints Joint Industry Project. His editorial roles span journals such as *Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology* and *International Journal of Ocean Systems Engineering*.

Choo has received prestigious awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award in Marine & Offshore Engineering (2021), Kurobane Award (2015), and James Watt Medal (2005). He has delivered keynote lectures globally and chairs committees like ISO/TC67/SC7. His professional activities include leadership roles in IMarEST, Singapore Structural Steel Society, and ISOPE.
